The IRS doesn't make the law; Congress does. Ask for the legal citation, and they will probably either site nothing or site something that's not applicable.

Jeff...I was told by an IRS representative that if you transfer tax deferred monies out of the USA it is then considered a distribution & therefore becomes taxable.

Joseph,

We are in the works of developing a service to help our customers do just that.

IRAs & 401k plans are both technically trusts. Any bank in any country who will open a checking account for a U.S. trust will effectively open a checking account for a retirement plan.

The trick is that my company is one of the only in existence who will setup your plan to name yourself as trustee. For more details, call my office at 877-903-2220. I look forward to speaking with you.

Question...Can I open a foreign bank account and transfer my existing qualified IRA assets to an IRA with that country's currency?
I understand of course, that any funds that I withdraw from that account would have to be taxed by the IRS. Is this possible?
My whole purpose is to protect against a failing US dollar by tranferring my assets to a stable foreign bank with a different currency (for example, a Swiss Bank Account with francs as the currency). Please advise. Thank you.
